Privacy Policy

Introduction
Learni (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates an AI tutoring platform for New Zealand children. We collect only the information needed to provide the service safely, and we handle it in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and who we share it with.
What we store
- Parent email address (account login and communication)
- Child name and year level (to personalise tutoring)
- Stars ledger — earned stars and approved payouts
- Session history — questions asked, answers given, homework images uploaded
We do not collect payment card details. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe (see Third parties below).
Children’s privacy (NZ Privacy Act 2020)
Learni is designed for children Year 1–13 (approximately ages 5–18). A parent or guardian must create the account and remains the account holder at all times. Children do not have direct sign-up access.
We collect only the minimum information required to deliver the tutoring service to each child. Child session data (chat history, homework images) is used solely to provide tutoring responses and is not used for advertising, profiling, or sold to third parties.
Content moderation is active on all child-facing chat routes to detect and block harmful, inappropriate, or unsafe content in both inputs and AI outputs.
Parents may request deletion of their child’s data at any time by contacting [email protected].
Authentication cookies
Learni uses Supabase for authentication. Supabase sets a session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies. No cross-site tracking occurs.
Third-party services
Anthropic (Claude API)
AI tutoring responses are generated by Anthropic’s Claude models. Chat messages and homework image content are sent to Anthropic’s API to produce responses. Anthropic’s data processing is governed by their privacy policy.
Stripe
Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. Learni does not store card details. Stripe’s data processing is governed by their privacy policy.
ElevenLabs (voice)
When voice is enabled, tutor response text is sent to ElevenLabs to generate audio. ElevenLabs’ data processing is governed by their privacy policy.
Resend (email)
Transactional emails (welcome, receipts, notifications) are sent via Resend. Resend’s data processing is governed by their privacy policy.
Data location
Your data is stored in Supabase, hosted in-region where possible (Australia/NZ region on AWS). Some third-party processors (Anthropic, Stripe, ElevenLabs) may process data outside New Zealand. Where this occurs, we rely on contractual safeguards consistent with the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you close your account, your data is deleted within 30 days. You may request earlier deletion by contacting us.
Your rights
Under the NZ Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and your children, request corrections, and request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
